Senior Buyer

About the role

Abbott is seeking a Senior Buyer for its Vascular division at the Alajuela, Coyol site. The role focuses on securing high‑quality, cost‑effective supplies and services that support production schedules and business demands.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate long‑term contracts outside commodity‑managed categories, ensuring optimal quality, availability, and cost.
• Plan and schedule deliveries to align inventories with production needs, collaborating with forecasting, planning, and shipping teams.
• Review purchase requisitions, obtain vendor quotes, and verify pricing accuracy and competitiveness.
• Implement best‑practice processes in partnership with functional leaders across product lines.
• Facilitate vendor corrective actions, working with SQE and suppliers to improve quality.
• Drive continuous‑improvement metrics such as CIP, PPV, unit cost, UPPH, PA, and cycle time.
• Develop and maintain long‑term supplier partnerships, serving as the primary point of contact.
• Mentor junior purchasing staff and act as the subject‑matter expert for internal and external customers.
• Monitor supplier performance, update databases, and generate complex reports for proactive issue resolution.

Required profile

• Proven experience in strategic procurement or senior buying roles.
• Strong negotiation skills with a focus on quality, cost, and service.
• Ability to analyze data, manage supplier performance, and drive cost‑saving initiatives.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management capabilities.
• Experience mentoring or leading junior team members.
