Secondary English Teacher

About the role

Country Day, an international school in Costa Rica, is seeking a passionate Secondary English Teacher to deliver high‑quality English Language Arts instruction to students from early secondary through senior year. The role may include teaching Advanced Placement courses and contributing to a vibrant extracurricular program.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, standards‑driven ELA lessons, including AP/Pre‑AP content where applicable.
• Design and implement varied assessments, using data to inform instruction and differentiate for diverse learners.
• Integrate technology to enhance learning experiences.
• Monitor and document student progress, providing regular feedback to students and families.
• Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment and build strong relationships with students.
• Participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, and school events.
• Engage in continuous professional development and collaborative team work.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with a valid teaching certificate/license in the relevant content area.
• At least two years of secondary‑school teaching experience (preferred).
• Experience with Advanced Placement instruction is an asset.
• Excellent command of English; native speaker preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with the U.S. K‑12 curriculum, Common Core State Standards, and Next Generation ELA standards.
• Ability to provide a recent criminal background check from the country of origin and from all countries of residence in the past ten years.
• Availability to start on August 1, 2026.
