Learning Support Specialist – Middle & High School

About the role

The Learning Support Specialist will lead inclusive education initiatives for middle and high school students with mild to moderate exceptionalities at Country Day School in Alajuela, Costa Rica. This position blends direct student support with strategic leadership to embed Universal Design for Learning, Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support, Response to Intervention and differentiated instruction across the school.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and monitor individualized support plans in collaboration with teachers, counselors, administrators and families.
• Serve on Student Learning Profile (SLP) teams and coordinate transition planning between school divisions.
• Lead professional‑learning sessions and coach staff on inclusive practices and data‑driven decision‑making.
• Develop and sustain school‑wide systems and protocols for UDL, MTSS, RTI and differentiated instruction.
• Analyze student data to inform continuous improvement and equity initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education, Learning Support or a related field; valid teaching certificate/license.
• Minimum two years of experience supporting middle‑ and/or high‑school students with mild to moderate exceptionalities.
• Demonstrated experience advancing inclusive practices such as UDL, MTSS, RTI and differentiated instruction.
• Strong collaboration skills and experience working with teachers, counselors, administrators and external providers.
