Accountant – Costa Rica (Full‑Time Contractor)

About the role

We are looking for a skilled Accountant to support a portfolio of foreign‑owned entities in Costa Rica. The role is contract‑based, full‑time equivalent, and will be based in San José. You will ensure accurate bookkeeping, statutory filings and financial reporting in line with local regulations and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform monthly bookkeeping and maintain records according to Costa Rican IFRS adoption.
• Prepare and file all monthly tax obligations (D‑104 VAT, D‑103 withholding) and annual returns (D‑101 corporate tax, D‑151 informative declarations) with the Ministerio de Hacienda.
• Manage electronic invoicing compliance, including issuance, validation and client support during the transition to TRIBU‑CR.
• Prepare annual financial statements and monthly reporting packs for foreign parent companies, mapping local figures to IFRS or US GAAP as required.
• Reconcile CCSS planilla and INS risk insurance postings with the general ledger in coordination with payroll.
• Respond to Hacienda notifications, information requests and audits, maintaining organized client files and meeting fixed deadlines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Contaduría Pública) from an accredited Costa Rican university.
• Active registration with the Colegio de Contadores Públicos de Costa Rica.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in Costa Rican accounting and tax compliance, preferably in professional services or outsourced accounting.
• Fluent Spanish and professional‑level English, both written and spoken.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple client deliverables against fixed deadlines.
