Software Development Architect

About the role

IBM Consulting is seeking a Software Development Architect to lead the design of data‑intensive applications for Fortune 1000 clients. You will work at the intersection of application engineering and modern data platforms, translating business challenges into scalable, cost‑aware solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end technical design of data‑centric applications, from ingestion to user‑facing APIs.
• Lead solution‑architecture workshops, pre‑sales discovery, and requirements‑gathering sessions with technical and business stakeholders.
• Produce architecture decision records, reference diagrams, and target‑state designs that guide development teams.
• Technically lead cross‑functional teams of 4–10 engineers, set standards, review code, and enforce non‑functional requirements such as observability, security, and data quality.
• Assess scalability risks at large data volumes and propose mitigations before production incidents.
• Collaborate with data engineers, DevOps, and security partners on CI/CD, IaC, identity federation, secrets management, and compliance.
• Mentor mid‑ and senior‑level engineers and contribute to internal accelerators and reusable assets.

Required profile

• Deep fluency in software architecture fundamentals and solution design for enterprise‑scale data applications.
• Proven experience delivering complex, high‑performance systems for large organizations.
• Ability to make and defend technical decisions under ambiguity, balancing cost, performance, security, and time‑to‑market.
• Strong communication skills to represent IBM’s technical viewpoint to client architecture boards and executive audiences.
