Senior Security Research Engineer – Microsoft Defender Experts Team

About the role

Microsoft Defender Experts Team is seeking a senior security research engineer to help design and deliver cutting‑edge detection and response capabilities for Microsoft 365 Defender. You will work with customers and internal experts to translate massive security telemetry into actionable alerts and tools that stop advanced adversaries.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with senior leaders of customer security organizations to co‑design cloud detection and response innovations.
• Collaborate with Microsoft Threat Experts to conduct deep research and analysis of emerging threats.
• Work cross‑functionally with engineering, marketing, and business teams to launch new security services at global scale.
• Investigate real incidents, attacker techniques, and security research to develop durable detection strategies.
• Forge and improve partnerships with internal and external teams to mature Defender Experts service offerings.
• Provide technical leadership and influence product direction in a challenging environment.

Required profile

• Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Security, or related field, OR a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, OR a Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, OR equivalent experience.
• At least 7 years of hands‑on experience in technical cybersecurity roles such as security operations, threat intelligence, incident response, or penetration testing.
